Christmas is still months away, but for PR girls + boys, it’s never too early to start thinking about the most wonderful time of the year. Holiday gift guides are one of the largest opportunities to get your clients press coverage, so knowing when to pitch, what to write + who to send it to are all things that should be on your list. See below for our tips on pitching holiday publications.

  1. Get ahead of the game. Print publications start looking for items to put in their holiday gift guides as early as July, so sending a pitch anywhere from July – August is the prime time.
  2. Create a targeted media list with writers/editors who handle the gift guide specifically. Research is your best friend.
  3. Speaking of research, look at what kind of items the publications included last year + tailor your pitch to get your client noticed.

If you don’t hear back right away, don’t assume you failed. Writers receive tons of pitches + might not respond even if they like yours.
