With a tribute to its past and a reimagined future, construction of Charlotte’s Tompkins Hall, an expansive $60MM historic redevelopment project in Optimist Park, is visibly nearing initial completion with tenant openings slated for late this year. Atlanta-based Paces Properties and Charlotte-based White Point Partners are pleased to reveal three new tenants for the Food Hall at Tompkins Hall.

“As we continue to announce tenants, we are revealing a thoughtfully curated experience, bringing under one roof some of the best food and beverage concepts in Charlotte and the Southeast,” said Erik Johnson, Partner, White Point Partners. “Papi Queso is a local favorite and Charlotte food truck pioneer that has operated since 2012, and AVA and Zukku Sushi will bring the wow factor that they have been able to deliver in Tampa, Florida.”

AVA

Concept: An inspired and imaginative Italian eatery from restaurateur Michael Stewart and Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon. A reiteration of their acclaimed AVA Tampa. Featuring handmade, traditional Neapolitan pizza and authentic Italian fare– its food that takes you home. The team plans to replicate the food, service, energy and ambience of the Tampa location, which received the highest marks ever from the food critic at the Tampa Bay Times.

Vision: Expect a welcoming ambiance rooted in a rustic, yet modern design. The roaring Acunto wood-fired pizza oven will be the centerpiece of the market stall, beckoning guests like a home’s hearth. White oak finishes will be the consistent visible theme as it’s the wood used to fuel the oven.

Stats:   502 SF Market Stall

“We are looking forward to opening a market stall in Tompkins Hall. As fans of the developer’s previous projects, when we heard they were working on Tompkins Hall we jumped at the chance to get involved. We think Charlotte is going to love our pizza and we are excited to share it.”

PAPI QUESO

Concept:  As seen on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, this chef-driven, made-from-scratch gourmet grilled cheese concept, promises to be both adventurous yet familiar. Combining modern flavors with time-honored techniques, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients that are seasonal and local, this will be the first brick and mortar location for the popular food truck.

Vision: A hip, modern take on the luncheonette with artisan barstool counter seating, a sleek exposed kitchen and completed with vintage tile finishes.

Stats:   645 SF Market Stall

“We are truly grateful for the opportunity to join the Tompkins Hall family and share with you our love and passion for grilled cheese. Prepare yourselves for the best honest-to-goodness grilled cheese you’ve ever tasted!”

ZUKKU SUSHI

Concept: Expertly crafted sushi rolls, sushi burritos and poke bowls. The rice is your canvas at Zukku. Whether you want it as a burrito or a bowl, you can add only the highest quality ingredients to create your own masterpiece.

Vision: Art highlighting Asian influences across the walls and paintings featured throughout to complement and reflect the concept.

Stats:   525 SF Market Stall

“The Tompkins Hall concept will change the DNA of the Charlotte food scene and the way people eat and socialize. The communal atmosphere will be unlike any other, and we’re looking forward to it becoming a destination upon opening.”
