Atlantic Station just dropped some major foodie news, and we’re already dreaming of candied yams. The beloved and nationally recognized Busy Bee Café is officially expanding — and its second-ever location is opening right in the heart of Atlantic Station in spring 2026.

If you know, you know: Busy Bee is more than just a restaurant. It’s an Atlanta institution that’s been serving up soul food and Southern hospitality since 1947. The Vine City original has long been a favorite for everyone from civil rights leaders to presidents and culinary legends. Now, this James Beard America’s Classic and Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning gem is ready to bring that legacy to the 30363.

The new 4,000-square-foot space will reintroduce sit-down dining—something the original location has lacked since the pandemic—along with an expanded menu, selective bar program, and patio seating. Situated adjacent to Atlantic Green, the restaurant will be a centerpiece of the neighborhood’s retail and entertainment district, offering the same soul-warming experience with a fresh twist.

Owner Tracy Gates, who took the reins from her father in the ’80s, says this move is all about intention. “We didn’t chase the spotlight — we honored our roots, stayed true to the recipe, and let the love speak for itself,” she shared. And it shows: under her leadership, Busy Bee continues to dish out comfort, consistency, and care with every plate.

As Atlantic Station celebrates its 20th anniversary this year — recently named the No. 2 place to live in the U.S. by Niche.com — it’s only fitting that a hometown hero like Busy Bee is stepping into this next chapter with them.

This transformative deal has been a year in the making, resulting from a thoughtful and strategic partnership between Nick Garzia, Senior Director of Retail Leasing at Hines – the real estate firm behind Atlantic Station’s continued growth, and Oswald Morgan of Food & Wine Solutions – a restaurant consulting firm, Attorney Charles T. Sharbaugh, Carlton Fields and Broker Kristie Abney, Full Plate Real Estate on behalf of Busy Bee owner Tracy Gates. Gates and Garzia are pictured above.

Stay tuned for renderings, menu previews, and more as we count down to 2026. In the meantime, get your fix at the original Busy Bee Café on MLK Drive — still serving up to-go and catering with that same iconic flavor.
