It’s officially been two months since the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) was implemented in Europe – so what has changed for us on this side of the pond? Beyond companies flooding our email inboxes with updated privacy policies, social media giants like Facebook began to roll out new changes to make sure users understand what information is being collected and how it is being used.

While the regulation doesn’t necessarily impact Americans, it impacts any American company that has a digital presence in Europe and collects, processes, manages or stores the data of European citizens. This requires companies worldwide to be more open about the data they use, otherwise they could face steep penalties.

If you haven’t yet, go ahead and double-check your settings on Facebook. Just click the question mark button in the top right of your screen and select ‘Privacy Shortcuts’ to review how much of your profile is public, how much you share with third-party apps, and more.
